Beyond Projects
This visual essay is the outcome of a critical inquiry into the implementation of social design initiatives. By expanding the discourse on the topic and proposing approaches towards continuity, we hope to contribute to the “Beyond Projects” mindset and practice.“Beyond Projects” is an independent design research initiated and led by Shay Raviv with the support of a core team and partners. The research trajectory spanned the entirety of 2022 and has been made possible with the support of the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Dutch Design Foundation.
About
A critical inquiry into the barriers of value creation through Social Design projects. In recent decades designers have gained more credibility in their ability to tackle complex societal challenges. Large partnerships have emerged in projects for the common good, in which designers are also involved. However, we observe that only a few concepts survive the test of time. Researchers Shay Raviv and Noor Boostma aim to unravel the practice of implementing and maintaining social design projects. The results will be shared with the sector via a visual essay, and translated into a dialogue during a Social Design Showdown event in December. Collaboration partners include What If Lab (Dutch Design Foundation), Agis Innovatiefonds and Social Design Showdown, partner for the visual translation of the research is studio The Anderen.
